The steps to disable sync depend on whether you're using Google Authenticator with or without linking it to a Google account. Here’s how:
Scenario 1: Using Google Authenticator Without a Google Account
No action needed — synchronization is already turned off by default. Your 2FA codes are stored only on your device.
Scenario 2: Using Google Authenticator With a Google Account
If you've linked your Authenticator to a Google account and want to turn off sync:
1. Open the Google Authenticator app.
2. Tap your profile icon in the top right corner.
3. Select Use Authenticator without an account from the menu.
4. Tap Continue to confirm.
5. Sync will now be disabled, and your 2FA codes will only be stored on your device.
Important: Be sure to save your Google Authenticator Recovery Key Phrase in a safe place. If you're changing phones, refer to
this guide on how to
